The Japanese music and audio company is looking for businesses with technologies that could improve live events, gaming, ageing-related wellbeing and the way entertainment experiences are preserved.

Selected startups will have the opportunity to work with Yamaha using its proprietary technologies, industry expertise and assets to test and develop their solutions. They will also gain access to fundraising discussions with the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund, the company’s corporate venture capital team.

The inaugural challenge attracted 314 applications from startups in 63 countries.

Four Challenge Tracks

This year’s programme features four tracks targeting different opportunities in entertainment and technology.

  • Venue: Solutions that improve concerts, sports events and other live experiences through immersive technology, visual experiences and audience interaction.

  • Senior: Products that use music and entertainment to support active ageing, cognitive health and connections between generations.

  • Game: Startups combining gaming mechanics, audio and intellectual property to introduce interactive and playful experiences into everyday life.

  • Timeless: Technologies that preserve temporary live entertainment experiences as lasting digital or physical assets.

Funding and Collaboration Opportunities

The challenge offers three award categories, each with a different level of funding or access to Yamaha.

The Grand Prix Award winner can receive up to JPY5 million (approximately US$32,000) in proof-of-concept funding, alongside an opportunity to collaborate with Yamaha and its partners.

The Yamaha Award provides up to JPY2 million (approximately US$13,000) in proof-of-concept funding and a potential collaboration with the company.

The YMI Fund Award offers direct fundraising discussions with members of the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund.

Through the programme, Yamaha aims to identify startups whose products can be tested and developed alongside its existing technologies and industry capabilities. For participating founders, the opportunity extends beyond funding to include technical resources, mentorship and potential collaboration with an established global audio and entertainment company.
