Disrupt Africa has partnered with Kenya-based digital product company Touch Inspiration to launch Disrupt Launchpad, a programme designed to help entrepreneurs turn app ideas into working digital products without having to build their own technical teams.
The initiative targets aspiring entrepreneurs and existing startups that have a clear application idea but lack the software development skills, personnel or resources to bring it to market.
Under the partnership, Touch Inspiration will handle application development at startup-friendly rates, while Disrupt Africa will help participating ventures gain exposure to potential customers, users and investors through its media platform.
The programme aims to address a common challenge for early-stage founders: moving from an idea to a product people can actually use. Entrepreneurs may understand a problem they want to solve, but developing an application requires technical expertise and money that many cannot afford at the outset.
Development Support for Early-Stage Founders
Touch Inspiration, founded in 2017, develops web and mobile applications, AI-powered solutions and business platforms. Its role in Disrupt Launchpad is to help founders turn their concepts into functional products and prepare them for launch.
The partnership also offers a possible alternative to paying the full development cost upfront. Selected startups may qualify for an equity-based development partnership, under which development support could be exchanged for an ownership stake in the venture.
This option could help some founders reduce their initial cash requirements. However, the equity arrangement is not guaranteed for every applicant, and the announcement does not specify the eligibility criteria, potential equity stakes or development costs.
Market Exposure Alongside Product Development
Disrupt Africa will contribute its experience covering African technology startups and its network of industry contacts to help participating businesses reach potential users, customers and investors.
For founders, building the application is only one part of the challenge. They must also find customers, demonstrate demand and persuade potential investors that the product addresses a real need. The programme combines development support with an opportunity to introduce the resulting products to a wider audience.
“Funding is important, networking is key, but being able to build your great idea in the first place is absolutely essential,” said Tom Jackson, co-founder of Disrupt Africa.
Touch Inspiration founder Robert M. said the partnership would help entrepreneurs develop their applications and connect with the people who could use them.
Disrupt Launchpad is open to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing startups with clear app ideas. Applications are being accepted through Disrupt Africa.
