Located at the Unisa Science Campus, in Florida, Johannesburg, Unisa’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) vision is to develop world class, futuristic, African science, engineering and technology leaders, who aspire to extend the frontiers of innovation. CSET provides graduates with an enabling environment for advancing science, engineering and technology knowledge that is nationally responsive and globally relevant.

Unisa CSET is divided into 3 schools (School of Science, School of Engineering and School of Computing)  that offer undergraduate and postgraduate student training on general academic and career-oriented degrees, diplomas and certificates in a range of science, engineering and technology disciplines. Our Undergraduate programmes include Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) accredited Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in Mining Engineering, Information Technology, BSc in Informatics to mention a few. The admission requirements of these qualifications include National Senior Certificate with a rating of 4 in Mathematics or Technical Maths, English, Physical Science or Technical science Or N4 Mathematics and Engineering science with a 50% minimum pass mark in these subjects.

We also offer Higher Certificates in Mathematics  and Statistics and in Physical Sciences which require a National Senior Certificate, with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning and 40% in Mathematics. At postgraduate level, the college offers a range of Masters and Doctoral degrees in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Computing, Information Technology Management Physics, Statistics, Chemistry Education, Computing Education, Life Science Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Statistics Education  and Technology Education. In addition to the three Schools, the college also houses three research institutes with an intensive research focus and engaged scholarship initiatives. These include the Institute for Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability (iNanoWS), Institute for Catalysis and Energy Solutions (ICES) and Centre for Augmented Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDS).

In 2022, Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which rates over 1 700 universities across 104 countries and regions, placed Unisa’s engineering programmes offered in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology joint first place in South Africa.

The Unisa Science Campus offers state-of the- art laboratories and high-end equipment, thereby advancing science education and research at a national level that are Used for teaching and learning and for research purposes. The equipment available at CSET laboratories enable training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in scarce skills science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI) areas, hosting of international scholars, and increased collaborative activities.
