Kenyan fintech Cloud9 has acquired ticketing platform M-Tickets and social commerce startup Chpter as it expands beyond digital banking into the transactions businesses already carry out every day.
The acquisitions give the Nairobi-based company access to event organisers, ticket buyers and thousands of merchants selling through social media. Cloud9 plans to integrate financial services into these existing commercial relationships rather than build every customer channel from scratch.
M-Tickets Acquisition Opens Access to Event Businesses
Cloud9 acquired M-Tickets in May 2026 in an all-stock transaction reported at approximately KES 100 million (US$773,000). Founded in 2014, M-Tickets operates a digital ticketing platform for concerts, sports events, transport and other activities. The business had processed more than one million tickets since its launch.
The acquisition creates an opportunity for Cloud9 to offer event organisers payment collection, business banking and financing. Event organisers often need to pay for venues, performers, marketing and logistics before ticket revenue arrives. Cloud9 has indicated that it wants to develop credit products to help address these cash-flow pressures.
Chpter Adds Social Commerce and AI Tools
In August, Cloud9 acquired Chpter in a second all-stock transaction. The company did not disclose the financial terms.
Chpter developed technology that helps businesses market products, communicate with customers and process sales through platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Before the acquisition, it had served approximately 4,500 businesses and processed more than one million transactions.
Cloud9 has discontinued Chpter's standalone application and is integrating its artificial intelligence-powered sales and customer engagement tools into its business banking platform. Members of Chpter's product, engineering, customer success and commercial teams have joined Cloud9, although its former operational leads will not move across.
Building a Broader Financial Services Platform
The acquisitions support Cloud9's broader plan to combine business accounts, international payments and commercial tools in one platform. Its services include multi-currency accounts, supplier payments and tools for managing payroll and bulk transactions.
Cloud9 also uses stablecoin infrastructure behind the scenes to facilitate cross-border settlements. In October, it secured US$500,000 from New York-based accelerator and investment firm Alliance, bringing its disclosed funding to US$1 million. The company said it had created more than 25,000 accounts since launching in early 2026, with transaction volumes growing by more than 15% week on week.
Targeting Merchants Through Existing Business Networks
For Cloud9, the acquisitions provide access to businesses with existing customers, transaction histories and commercial activity. Those relationships could create opportunities to sell additional payment and financial products while reducing the cost of acquiring customers individually.
The company has not disclosed a timeline for profitability. Its immediate challenge is to turn the merchants and event organisers it has acquired access to into regular users of its banking and payment services.
