The company connects smallholder farmers with businesses that need fresh produce while helping reduce the amount of food that goes unsold or is discarded.

Connecting Farmers With Buyers

Founded in 2021 by Claire van Enk, Anouk Boertien and Zara Benosa, Farm to Feed has built a platform covering sourcing, demand forecasting, sales, logistics, warehousing and payments.

The platform gives farmers greater visibility into buyer demand and allows them to plan their production around actual market needs. Farm to Feed also aims to shorten payment periods for farmers, helping them receive income within days rather than waiting several weeks.

The company currently has 5,500 registered farmers and more than 160 business customers, including hotels, schools, hospitals, food processors and institutional feeding programmes.

Turning Surplus Produce Into Revenue

Farm to Feed purchases entire harvests, including surplus and lower-grade produce that may not meet conventional retail requirements.

Its Grade Rescue line allows the company to sell lower-grade produce, while its Ready to Use range processes produce to improve usability and shelf life. The products are sold in local and international markets.

The model is designed to create another market for produce that might otherwise remain unsold while giving farmers an additional source of revenue.

Food loss remains a significant challenge across sub-Saharan Africa, particularly for fruits and vegetables, where farmers can lose part of their harvest because of limited market access, inconsistent demand and quality requirements.

Expansion Beyond Nairobi

Farm to Feed says it has grown by more than 100% year on year for three consecutive years and is now expanding beyond Nairobi into other parts of Kenya.

Its 2025 impact report recorded a 249% increase in farmer income and an 81% reduction in food loss among farms working with the company.

The new funding will support further expansion of its technology platform, operations and network of partner farmers. It will also allow the company to increase its value-added activities so that more of the produce it sources can be sold.

Proparco's Investment

Proparco said the investment supports its focus on companies addressing food security, climate challenges and the inclusion of smallholder farmers.  The funding provides additional capital to expand a model built around connecting farmers to reliable demand while finding commercial uses for produce that would otherwise be lost.
