Meta has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence startup developing tools that allow software engineers to manage multiple AI coding agents simultaneously. The acquisition adds a team focused on coordinating AI-powered software development to Meta's growing artificial intelligence operations.
Announced on 4 November 2026, the deal was confirmed by Meta, although the company has not disclosed the financial terms.
Founded in 2024 by Charlie Holtz, Conductor launched its main product in July 2025. Its platform allows developers to assign different coding tasks to multiple AI agents working in separate, isolated workspaces. This means engineers can run several development tasks in parallel rather than relying on one AI assistant to complete each task sequentially.
The platform does not develop its own underlying AI models. Instead, it coordinates coding agents from technology companies including Anthropic and OpenAI. Developers can run these agents through cloud-based workspaces or locally on their computers.
Meta's growing interest in AI coding
The acquisition comes as Meta increases investment in AI tools aimed at software developers.
In August 2026, Meta introduced Muse Code, its own AI coding agent, as part of its wider Muse AI initiative. Bringing Conductor's team into the company could strengthen its work on interfaces that allow developers to coordinate multiple AI agents.
Conductor founder Charlie Holtz said he was looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, who leads product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Holtz also indicated that the team was already planning a new developer interface, which he expects to make available in early 2027.
Existing Conductor users face a shutdown
The acquisition will also bring changes for existing customers.
Conductor stopped accepting new users and downloads on 4 November. Its cloud service will become read-only on 13 November before shutting down completely on 20 November. The company will begin deleting cloud user data after the shutdown.
Existing Pro users can continue accessing paid features without charge during the transition, while active subscribers will receive refunds.
The locally installed Mac application will continue receiving support for new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when the company plans to wind it down.
Users can transfer their cloud workspaces to their local machines or export their account data before the deadlines.
Conductor has not disclosed what its successor product will look like or whether it will continue supporting AI agents from competing providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
