With energy availability increasing to almost 70 % , according to a cabinet statement on Thursday, South Africa’s power crisis could end sooner than anticipated according to Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
In a media briefing in Pretoria on Sunday, Ramokgopa said, “I said when I started this assignment, we will resolve load shedding and I think that we will resolve it much quicker than we had anticipated.”
Earlier this year, the “energy availability” dropped to less than 50% due to frewuent breakdowns at state-owned power utility Eskom’s plants, according to moneyweb.
With the energy availability increasing it means that load-shedding will soon be a thing of the past. This also means there is now more scope to undertake planned maintenance, Ramokhopa stated at the briefing.
