DataSync Africa Launches Yoruba Voice AI for Nigerian Farmers

Nigerian technology company DataSync Africa has launched a conversational voice AI capability for its agricultural platform, AGROSYNC, allowing farmers to access farming information and digital advisories through natural voice interactions in Yoruba.

The new feature enables farmers to ask questions by voice, receive responses through the platform and listen to agricultural advisories in Yoruba. It is designed for farmers who may find typing difficult or prefer receiving information in a familiar language.

AGROSYNC is DataSync Africa’s digital agriculture platform, offering tools such as hyperlocal weather alerts, AI crop advisories, farm activity tracking and AI-powered pest identification. The platform is designed for farmers as well as food and beverage companies seeking farm and crop data.

“More than 30% of Nigeria’s labour force works in Agriculture. Products like Agrosync AI is focused on ensuring they are not left behind in the gains and productivity that AI is catalysing globally,” said Jude ‘Feranmi, Co-founder of DataSync Africa.

Bringing agricultural information to farmers by voice

AGROSYNC’s conversational voice capability gives farmers another way to access digital agricultural support without relying entirely on written text.

Farmers can use the AI chat feature to ask questions about crop health, pests, farm activities and other agricultural issues, then receive responses through the platform. Yoruba voice advisories allow users to listen to the information rather than read it.

The voice capability works alongside AGROSYNC’s existing tools, including Farm Log, Scan Crop and agricultural advisories. The platform also provides weather information and AI-powered guidance tailored to farming activities.

DataSync Africa says the technology is intended to complement agricultural extension officers, agronomists and other qualified professionals by providing farmers with an accessible first layer of information.

Building better farm records

AGROSYNC also allows farmers to record activities on their farms, creating a digital history of production and farm management.

With farmers’ consent, these records can help the platform provide more relevant support while giving agricultural organisations, aggregators, off-takers and development programmes better information about farm activity.

DataSync Africa says structured farm data can also support planning, supply-chain coordination and a clearer view of crop availability.

Hausa and Igbo planned next

Yoruba is the first local language targeted through AGROSYNC’s new voice capability, with Hausa and Igbo planned for future releases.

The company says the expansion will give more Nigerian farmers access to agricultural information in languages they are comfortable using.
