Azule Energy, the joint venture formed by BP and Eni, has started production at the offshore Ndungu oil field in Angola’s Block 15/06. In a statement on February 18 issued alongside the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), the company said the project had reached “first oil,” marking the start of commercial production. The Ndungu development includes eleven wells in total, seven dedicated to oil production and four that will reinject water into the reservoir to maintain pressure and support long-term recovery. Three wells are already producing as the field ramps up output.

Field Development and Infrastructure

At peak capacity, the Ndungu field could produce around 60,000 barrels of oil per day and forms part of the broader Agogo Integrated West Hub project, one of the key developments within Block 15/06. The site lies roughly 10 kilometers from the Ngoma floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), which processes crude, stores it offshore and transfers it to tankers for export in waters about 1,100 meters deep. Additional details released by Eni on February 20 show that the partners are developing the project in phases. Ndungu will initially tie back to the Ngoma FPSO, while future production will move through the Agogo FPSO once that facility enters service. The company says this phased approach should sustain long-term output from Block 15/06 and support Angola’s broader oil production targets. At peak, combined production from the Agogo and Ndungu fields could reach around 175,000 barrels per day.

Discovery and Block Ownership

Production at Ndungu follows closely on a new oil discovery announced by Azule Energy in mid-February at the Algaita-01 exploration well, also located within Block 15/06. Early estimates place the discovery at roughly 500 million barrels of crude, after drilling encountered several hydrocarbon-bearing geological structures near existing production infrastructure in the block. Azule Energy operates Block 15/06 with a 36.84% stake, alongside Sonangol with an equal share and SSI Fifteen Limited with 26.32%. The combination of new production and fresh discoveries reinforces the importance of the block within Angola’s offshore oil sector as operators expand output while making use of existing infrastructure.

China is preparing new traffic rules for a world of self-driving cars

Self-driving cars are getting better at driving themselves. The harder question is what happens when they get something wrong. China is now looking at that problem directly. The country is reviewing changes to its Road Traffic Safety Law that would create specific rules for autonomous vehicles. One of the biggest changes could be who is
