South Africa’s logistics sector has long struggled with moving medium to large loads efficiently, leaving a gap that traditional courier services don’t fill. That’s where Abdul Moosa saw an opportunity. With over two decades of experience in IT, Business and digital transformation spanning cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and enterprise infrastructure Abdul as leveraged his technical capability to launch Mr. Transport (Mr. T), a platform designed to bring reliability, transparency, and innovation to heavier goods delivery. Inspired by e-hailing models, Mr. T combines owned and independent fleets to offer real-time scheduling, upfront pricing, and secure, insured transport across South Africa.
As Abdul shared during a Founder Friday’s feature with Roy on Business Tech Africa, Mr. T was born from a glaring gap in Africa’s transport ecosystem. While courier services handle small parcels well, but moving loads between one and 36 tons was a logistical headache. “There are plenty of informal movers out there,” he explained, “but finding one when you need them scheduling, communication, and quick availability was nearly impossible.”
Mr. T was built to change that. Whether it’s a household moving furniture or a retailer needing urgent deliveries, the platform offers reliable, on-demand transport for heavier goods. By combining owned and independent fleets, Mr. T enables both instant and scheduled deliveries filling void traditional logistics providers often leave behind.
Bridging Convenience and Reliability
Mr. T stands out for its user-friendly, e-hailing-inspired approach that allows customers to book transport from point A to point B in real time, with instant access to available drivers and transparent pricing. Unlike many competitors that limit loads to five tons or lack immediate service options, Mr. T offers a secure, insured, and nationwide solution tailored for heavier deliveries. The platform prioritizes safety and trust by thoroughly vetting all delivery personnel, especially when goods are brought into homes.
Empowering Women and Small Businesses
Beyond technology, Mr. T is also driving social impact. The company partners with Nihka Technology Group, a gender-empowered tech integrator where over 70% of the tech team are women. On the ground, Mr. T supports women-owned fleets and helps independent vehicle owners grow their businesses through training and revenue-generating services. For instance, drivers can hire helpers for offloading, creating new income streams and expanding their reach.
Driver-owners also receive onboarding in financial literacy, health and safety, and regulatory compliance, ensuring they operate professionally and safely. This model has helped Mr. T scale quickly, now handling over 15,000 deliveries and moving 17,000 tons of goods each month.
Innovating for the Future
Mr. T is actively developing AI-driven features to enhance safety and operational precision, including facial recognition for proof-of-delivery and fatigue monitoring to ensure that only authorized, alert drivers handle each trip. The platform is also expanding into high-priority transport services such as medical emergencies, aligning itself as a reliable solution in time-sensitive scenarios
“Sustainability is on the roadmap too,” said Abdul. “While most of the fleet runs on gasoline today, Mr. T plans to pilot electric vehicles to cut emissions and align with ESG goals, paving the way for greener logistics.”
Investing in Technology Over Tradition
Abdul believes in scaling through smart technology rather than traditional ventures. “If we use technology effectively, we can scale safely, efficiently, and generate revenue that can later support other ventures,” he says. By integrating AI into logistics, Mr. T aims to deliver more value with less risk, raising the bar for efficiency and safety.
Leading with Balance
When asked how he balances work with family, Abdul emphasizes the importance of boundaries and support. “I always strike a balance. Certain hours are when we address topics within work. I’ve got a very strong team, so between the team we balance the work,” he says. “It’s very important, especially family responsibility. We always look at it from the perspective that family comes first.”
He credits both the company and his own leadership for fostering that culture. “The company is very supportive, including myself. We make sure that we strike that balance. Regular breaks are quite important as well. Having a good hobby is quite nice.” Despite being deeply rooted in technology, Abdul values moments of disconnection. “Even though I was born into technology, part of what I like to do is a technology detox. So, at some point, get away from screen time look at nature, go out with the family, enjoy a good holiday.”
Mr. T is exploring new modules to expand its platform, including opportunities in the e-hailing space where local representation remains limited. The team also sees potential in streamlining access to critical services like medical emergencies and roadside assistance, aiming to eliminate uncertainty around response times and pricing.
