Windows 12: New Features and Expected System Requirements

As the most widely used desktop operating system in the world, Windows is the subject of numerous rumours and speculations about Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 12 release. Microsoft not only changes the interface of the Windows operating system with each major update, but also adds a slew of new features and system improvements, making users eager to see what the new operating system will bring to the table.

So far, we know that Windows 12 will be released in 2024, after a three-year delay since the release of its predecessor, Windows 11, in 2021. According to some sources, Microsoft may release a beta version of Windows 12 as early as March 2023 in response to consumer complaints about Windows 11.

One of the most significant changes in Windows 12 will be the introduction of a completely new desktop user interface that has never been seen before. This new interface will include a floating taskbar on top of which will be a status bar similar to macOS. Furthermore, because Microsoft has made significant contributions to OpenAI, there will be deeper AI integration in Microsoft Windows 12. Another enhancement that we can anticipate in Windows 12 is the addition of tabs in Notepad, as confirmed by a recent leak from a Microsoft employee. This feature will allow users to open multiple Notepad windows at the same time, making it easier to edit multiple text files at the same time. In addition, Microsoft will be adding new features to Windows File Explorer.

Touch-screen devices and keyboards will also be supported in Windows 12, and the Control Panel will be included in the Settings tab. We also hope that future editions of Windows 12 will include a fix for the issue of installing Android using the Amazon app by using APK files.

In terms of system requirements, a device with 4 GB or more of RAM, a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, a minimum of 64 GB of storage, 8 GB of RAM, and a 1 GHz CPU clock speed are rumoured to be required for Windows 12. The processor should be a 64-bit compatible System on a Chip (CPU) with two or more cores (SoC) running at 1GHz or faster, and the display should have 8 bits per colour channel, high resolution (720p), and be larger than 9 inches across. Finally, the system firmware should support Secure Boot via UEFI, as well as a DirectX 12 or later and WDDM-compatible graphics card driver.
