WhatsApp is working on big image quality improvements

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on allowing users to exchange original-quality photographs without using image compression.

The functionality is included but not operational in WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.23.2.11.

When it comes to image quality sent via WhatsApp, users may now pick “automatic,” “best quality,” and “data saver” from the platform’s settings.

Even the “best quality” setting, however, compresses photographs to some extent in order to give quicker data transfers and less storage space.

WhatsApp intends to add a photo quality configuration option to the image editing screen, which appears after an image has been selected for sending.

The new image configuration function, according to WABetaInfo, would let users to set the original quality for the photographs they share.

MyBroadband tested a workaround in June 2022 that allows WhatsApp users to send higher-quality photographs by selecting the document attachment option rather than the image option.

Using this strategy, we were able to avoid the compression process.

It should be mentioned that MyBroadband also put the “best quality” option to the test. However, in our tests, this made no change to image quality.
