With a month until Black Friday 2022, retailers in South Africa are preparing for a busy weekend that will kick off the holiday shopping season.
Black Friday 2022 occurs on November 25th, which is pay day for many people, and follows a period in which lockdowns due to the covid-19 pandemic kept crowds away and spending low.
Retailers anticipate a “return to normal” for the holiday shopping season, as well as great deals.
Although black Friday deals and specials are expected to be announced in the in the coming weeks, major retailers such as Game, Shoprite, and Woolworths are already revealing what shoppers can expect on the day.
According to Game stores, due to covid-19 pandemic, after two years of month-long ‘Black November’ deals, the group is returning to its one-day Black Friday sale and bringing back midnight openings in 2022.
According to the group, consumer habits have begun to return to normal following Covid-19, and as a result, the retailer will open the majority of its 108 stores across the country at 00h00 on Friday, 25 November, and extend operating hours to 200h00 to allow shoppers time to take advantage of the deals.
“Following the success of our inaugural Halfway Day sale in July, it has become clear to us that the South African consumer is ready to return to one-day sales.
“As South Africa’s most Googled retailer for Black Friday for the past three years, this is an important day for our business and our consumers – as they look to find the best possible deals on the items they need and want,” the group said.
Game stated that it will have a variety of products available at heavily discounted prices across its categories this year, but shoppers can expect big savings on electronics, appliances, homeware, DIY, and outdoor.
In keeping with its expanding e-commerce offering, the retailer is also offering its largest-ever online range for Black Friday, giving consumers who prefer to shop from home more options- with free delivery on all online orders over R450 placed between 00:01 and 23:59 on Friday, November 25.
According to the group, all shoppers will receive the best price in the market on any items purchased at Game this year, as the retailer’s Price Beat Promise is valid on all Black Friday deals, both in-store and online.
“These are some of the best deals we’ve had for Black Friday yet. We’ve also been able to plan better than we ever have without external market interference. Our stock is here, our prices are here, and now we are looking forward to welcoming customers to what we believe is our biggest Black Friday yet,” it said.
Shoprite:
Shoprite, South Africa’s largest retailer, has announced that it will hold Black Friday sales this year.
“Recognising the financial pressures of its customers and the continued rising cost of inflation, extensive planning is done months in advance to ensure customers receive the very best Black Friday experience,” it said.
Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets are well prepared for the upcoming season, having brought in millions of products to provide customers with a variety of options, including much-needed commodities.
For the Shoprite group, Black Friday kicks off the holiday season, and the weeks leading up to Christmas are critical trading periods in the retail industry.
“Details about this year’s deep-cut Black Friday details will be shared in due course,” it said.
Woolworths and Zando
