Twitter’s contract with Google Cloud comes up for renewal this month and Twitter has refused to pay its bills.
According to reports, Twitter signed a multi-year contract with Google related to fighting spam and protecting accounts, among other things before Elon Musk took over the social media platform.
It is said that Twitter has been trying to renegotiate its contract with Google since at least March.
Twitter hosts some services on its server and houses others on the cloud platforms of Amazon and Google, the Platform said.
In March, Amazon warned Twitter that due to their outstanding bills to Amazon Web Service for cloud computing services, it would withhold advertising payments.
The social media platform has extremely cut costs and laid off thousands of employees since Musk’s takeover. According to a source who told Reuters in November, Musk ordered the company to cut infrastructure costs, such as spending on cloud services, by US$ 1 billion.
