SA business sector calls for Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter to vacate office
The South African business sector is seriously concerned with the ongoing power cuts as implemented by Eskom.
Many business leaders believe heads must roll at the embattled state-owned power-generating entity and the blame is solely on CEO Andre Marinus De Ruyter.
South Africa is currently on stage 6 of load shedding and the move has left many businesses struggling to make ends meet while scores of locals are frustrated and in darkness.
The South African United Business Confederation (SAUBC) on Thursday lamented the ongoing power cuts that have crippled the economy.
SAUBC president George Sebulela further lashed out at the under-fire De Ruyter, citing the reasons for the blackouts are purely poor management.
“Implementation of stage 6 is completely outrageous. Eskom workers cannot hold an entire country ransom,” said Sebulela as per IOL.

“This is because of Eskom not being able to supply the country with power because of poor management. Businesses and the community at large remain negatively impacted by the outages.
“Impact such as loss of production, stock spoiling, damage to electronics and machinery, theft and burglary, lighting, battery life and lastly, loss of Profit.”
On the other hand, Black Business Council’s Kganki Matabane echoed his counterpart’s sentiments, saying the government must fire the entire Eskom board.
“The continuous rolling blackouts and load shedding by André Marinus de Ruyter, including moving the country to stage six, giving a plethora of excuses, is unacceptable for a struggling economy trying to recover from the impact of Covid-19,” lamented Matabane.
“Until and unless our government, as shareholders, takes the drastic steps to remove the incompetent management and inadequate Board of Eskom, who have time to come with laughable excuses such as continuously blaming state capture instead of solving the electricity generation challenges, the country must forget about any prospect of economic recovery.”
