Oppp launch its foldable smartphone

Oppo has launched its first true global foldable smartphone, the Oppo Find N2 Flip, which is aimed at a different market to its previous foldable offerings. The clamshell folding phone, which is available outside of China for the first time, is designed to be compact and stylish with a focus on productivity. The device features a 6.8-inch 120Hz 21:9 folding AMOLED display and a Flexion Hinge that allows the phone to fold closed without a gap, offering one of the least noticeable creases on a folding display. The external cover screen includes a 3.26-inch 17:9 AMOLED panel that can be used as a viewfinder, to access quick settings and notifications, and even to view a virtual pet. The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset and is available in a single memory and storage configuration of 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone is priced at £849 in the UK and €1,199.99 in Europe, which is significantly lower than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, but the Oppo Find N2 Flip is not available in the US.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip boasts of impressive features that make it a strong contender among clamshell foldable smartphones. The phone’s Flexion Hinge with the Reticular Matrix Plate creates a very minimal crease when the phone is opened or closed. The phone’s display is also equipped with LTPO E6 AMOLED tech that offers a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz and peak brightness of 1,600 nits, which makes it great for enjoying media. The phone’s cover display is also larger than any other clamshell foldable, and it comes with interactive pet clocks and third-party addition features. The phone runs on the latest Android 13, dressed in Oppo’s own ColorOS 13 user experience. The Find N2 Flip also matches Samsung’s commitment to updates and comes with four years of OS updates and five years of security updates. The phone’s camera system includes a 50MP primary, 8MP secondary ultrawide, and a 32MP punch-hole front-facer, supported by Oppo’s dedicated MariSilicon X imaging NPU for image processing.

The plate then slides back and locks into place when the phone is opened back up, creating the smallest display crease in any clamshell foldable. According to Oppo, the crease is half the depth of the N2 Flip’s “main competitor.” The N2 Flip’s display offers a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, ensuring sharp and vibrant visuals with minimal brightness drop-off or color distortion when viewed off-axis. The display manages a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, making it great for enjoying media.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s cover display is also larger than any other clamshell foldable, making it brimming with features. The cover display can handle obvious tasks, like acting as a viewfinder when snapping selfies with the phone’s primary camera. There’s also the option of choosing one of five interactive pet clocks, which serve up a Tamagotchi-like experience. While the out-of-box feature set is a solid start, third-party additions would make for a welcome upgrade. At present, Spotify media controls can be accessed from the cover display, and the promise of Google Assistant interaction while the phone is closed is reportedly in the works too.

However, there is almost too much functionality, which many users may likely never venture to uncover. The phone also matches Samsung’s commitment to updates and comes with four years of OS updates and five years of security updates.
