OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly seeking additional financial backing from Microsoft as he looks to advance development of advanced AI capabilities.

Altman secured a $10 billion deal between OpenAI and Microsoft earlier this year, building on an initial $1 billion investment in 2019. However, the 38-year-old is pursuing even more funding to further commercialization and remain competitive as rival Google invests in other AI startups.

Altman aims to create artificial general intelligence (AGI) on par with human intelligence and eventually “superintelligence.” He sees AGI as the next evolution for OpenAI beyond existing products like ChatGPT.

While the recent Microsoft deal valued OpenAI at around $29 billion, Altman indicated that he hopes for continued investing. He noted the partnership is going well so far with strong revenue growth this year.

However, major expenses are still required for computing power to achieve Altman’s ambitious AI goals. He acknowledges there is a long road ahead to AGI, which currently only exists as a theoretical concept.

Altman remains laser-focused on advancing OpenAI’s AI capabilities. His appetite for more Microsoft funding reflects this relentless push towards human-level artificial intelligence and beyond.
