New BMW 1 Series Debuts in SA with Increased Power and Design
The new BMW 1 Series has made a local eye for South Africa, which aims to build the fourth generation’s profile as the most high-powered product in the premium midsize hatchback model.
The new 1 Series has a similar design to its previous model, but the body of this model measures up to 4,361 mm in and is 42 mm longer. The height has an increase to it as well which is 25 mm, the width is 1,800 mm and the space between the fore and axles is 2,670 mm. The luggage capacity is 380 litres, and a figure of 1,200 litres when lowering the rear seats backrest.
The interior of the 1 Series is leather-free as standard, where it has a leather like material and a soft fashioned from recycled polyester. It comes with a redesigned gear shifter with the latest BMW Curved Display which is a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a10.7 multimedia screen. There is an added touch of Air conditioning controls which are now fully digital.
The front of the 1 Series has features of BMW’s signature kidney grille and an updated LED headlights that include upright placed daytime running lights. At the back there is a taillight which has two parts and a LED element. The 1 Series is replacing the eight-speed self-shifter with a new seven-speed dual-clutch, which was once found on the 118i. BMW has increased the power of the M135i xDrive by 8 kW to 233 kW.
The new 1 Series will be available with two engine options, 118i and the M135i with an 120i which is set to arrive in South Africa by 2025.
