MTN SA customers left stranded as the company probes 4G and 5G outages

While busy conducting an investigation into the network outages, MTN South Africa has apologised to its customers who are experiencing network and connection challenges.
The mobile operator, MTN, suffered massive outages on Wednesday at its 4G and 5G sites and the company is investigating the cause of the problem.
As per the company’s social media platforms, MTN South Africa issued an apology and this comes after Downdetector showed a spike in MTN users.
Downdetector displayed that MTN subscribers were having issues with mobile internet (56%); some 29% reported that they did not have signal; while 15% said there was a total blackout.
ITWeb reports that complaints on Downdetector show that most parts of the country were affected by the MTN network outage.

“MTN apologises to its customers for the network interruptions on 4G & 5G experienced by some users earlier today. The issue has been resolved & network returning to normal. Investigations are underway to determine the root cause. We thank you for your patience & ongoing support,” reads the Twitter post.
The digital community took to social media platforms to vent their anger over the outage as some didn’t understand the problem.
Responding to ITWeb, Jacqui O’Sullivan, an executive for corporate affairs at MTN South Africa, said they were aware of the interruptions.
“MTN would like to apologise to its customers for the network interruptions 4G and 5G some users may have experienced earlier today,” he said.
According to O’Sullivan, the issue has been resolved and the network is returning to normal performance but some clients remain stranded.
“Investigations are underway into what caused the intermittent interruptions, which affected certain VoLTE calls, some mobile calls and some data connections. We thank our customers for their patience and appreciate their ongoing support.”
