DStv announces price increases

MultiChoice has announced its yearly DStv pricing increases, which will take effect on April 1, 2023.

Prices throughout DStv’s satellite pay-TV portfolio will rise by an average of 4.3%.

The streaming-only packages on DStv will stay unchanged.

“[The price adjustment] is far lower than the projected CPI for 2023,” MultiChoice said in a statement.

Premium customers will pay R40 extra each month, representing a 4.8% rise.

The Access Fee for features such as DStv Catch Up and PVR will also rise by R5 per month, representing a 4.5% increase.

Compact Plus will cost R30 per month (5.5%), Compact will cost R20 per month (4.7%), Family will cost R10 per month (3.2%), and Access will cost R9 (7.5%).

Prices for DStv EasyView and BoxOffice will not change this year.

“The pressure that consumers are facing due to remnants of the pandemic, as well as the continued rolling blackouts nationwide, has not been lost on us,” MultiChoice said.

“These nominal adjustments help DStv to ensure that South Africans continue to enjoy the best value and unrivalled access to entertainment, anywhere, anytime, and at the most affordable price.”

MultiChoice Group CEO Simon Camerer told MyBroadband that the company has “serious conversations” with suppliers to keep pricing down.

This includes their hardware and content providers.

Camerer stated that they examined major input prices and continued their cost-cutting strategy in order to keep price hikes below inflation.
