South African-born billionaire Elon Musk has shaken the social media space after posting a joke that he is buying English Premier League giants Manchester United.
The controversial businessman went to his Twitter timeline to share the news, but social media users questioned him as they raised their hopes.
However, it turned out he is only pulling a leg or two and confirmed that he used to admire the Red Devils while growing up as a young kid.
The 51-year-old Tesla and SpaceX CEO, is known for his habit of posting provocative and controversial statements on social media for the fun of it.

Twitter users were left with contrasting reactions, some were in disbelief while some were seemingly delighted with the post. One user asked him:
“Are you serious?”
Wasting no time to repond, one of the world’s wealthiest men replied to the concerned social media user and he said:
“No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams. Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”
Owned by an American family, Malcolm Glazer, the struggling EPL side is currently led by six children of the late American businessman who took over the club after buying a major stake in the franchise in 2005.
News24 reports that shares of the team listed on the New York Stock Exchange are down year to date, but ended Tuesday flat, with a market capitalisation of $2.1 billion.
At the same time, the tweet comes as the Old Trafford-based outfit is making headlines following their disastrous start in the 2022/23 EPL season.
Under new manager, Erik Ten Hag, Manchester are yet to secure a win as they have lost to Brighton & Hove Albion as well as to Brentford.
Furthermore, the former European champions are said to be divided on whether to let go of experienced striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Entertainment SA has gathered that Ten Hag wants to release Ronaldo but the management, led by co-chairman Joel Glazer, is not in a position to part ways with the seasoned finisher.
