Apple raises App Store charges In South Africa

Apple is raising App Store prices in various countries, including South Africa, according to a blog post published by the Cupertino-based tech corporation.

The business is altering App Store prices to account for shifting foreign currency values and changes in tax policies in certain countries, and the changes will take effect on February 13, 2023.

“Prices of apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will increase in Colombia, Egypt, Hungary, Nigeria, Norway, South Africa, and the United Kingdom,” Apple said.

At the same time, the business will cut App Store prices in Uzbekistan to match the country’s decline in VAT rates from 15% to 12%.

Apple stated that, while App Store prices in Ireland, Luxembourg, Singapore, and Zimbabwe will not change, developer revenues will be adjusted to reflect the following tax changes:

• Ireland — reduction of value-added tax rate: 9% to 0%
• Luxembourg — reduction of value-added tax rate: 17% to 16%
• Singapore — increased goods and services tax rate: 7% to 8%
• Zimbabwe — increased goods and services tax rate: 14.5% to 15%

“Additionally, by the end of January, proceeds will increase for local developers selling in Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan,” Apple said.

Before computing commission, the firm stated that it would estimate and subtract taxes depending on the tax category information given by developers.

Apple also released a list of App Store pricing tier adjustments for January 2023.

Apple stated this month that its App Store pricing will be overhauled, allowing developers to charge a greater range of prices beginning in early 2023.

Prices can now start at 29 cents (R5), compared to a prior baseline of 49 cents for subscriptions and 99 cents for applications, and can go up to $10,000. (R174,000).
