Claude
Anthropic has expanded its Claude for Startups programme, offering eligible early-stage companies one year of free access to Claude Team for up to five users, alongside $1,000 in credits to build applications using its AI models.
The initiative targets founders developing AI-powered products and businesses, giving them access to Claude’s tools, technical support and additional offers from companies providing services to AI-native startups.
However, demand has exceeded Anthropic’s capacity for the free Team subscriptions and $1,000 API credit offers. The company says it is reviewing applications and reconfiguring the programme. Prospective applicants should check the official page for the latest availability.
What Startups Get
Approved companies that qualify for the offer can access Claude Team free for one year, covering up to five Premium seats if they are new to the Team plan.
They also receive $1,000 in Claude API credits to test ideas, build prototypes and integrate Claude models into their applications. The credits apply to Anthropic’s own API through Claude Console and cannot be used on third-party platforms such as Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI.
The API credits expire six months after they are granted, so startups need to plan their development work accordingly. The programme also includes access to the Claude Startup Stack, which offers discounts and credits worth up to $45,000 from participating technology partners. These offers cover tools used for software development, design, data analysis, sales and other business operations. The total value depends on which offers a startup can redeem and the partners’ individual terms.
Startups Eligible for the Programme
Anthropic says startups founded within the past five years or funded within the past two years can qualify. The programme is open to bootstrapped businesses, pre-seed startups and venture-backed companies.
Applicants need a Claude Console account, a company email address matching their website’s domain, and a short description of what they are building. Anthropic reviews applications against its programme requirements.
Startups backed by venture capital firms in Anthropic’s partner network may also qualify for up to $100,000 in additional API credits through their investors.
Support Beyond AI Credits
The initiative offers more than discounted access to AI models. Approved members can attend virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team, join startup events and hackathons, and receive support for building products that use Claude.
For startups developing customer service tools, business automation software, research applications or AI-powered platforms, these resources could help reduce early development costs and provide technical guidance.
The programme reflects Anthropic’s effort to encourage more companies to build products around its AI models. For African startups considering the offer, the immediate priority is to confirm whether applications and the advertised benefits are currently available.
