WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature aimed at simplifying event organization within Communities, the company announced on Wednesday. This feature streamlines the process of planning gatherings and events directly within WhatsApp, whether it’s coordinating a PTA meeting or arranging a birthday dinner.

With the new feature, anyone within a group can create an event that others can respond to, enabling all members to see who plans to attend. Events can be found on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive notifications as the event date approaches.

Initially, this feature will be available to groups within Communities, with a gradual rollout to all groups expected over the coming months.

In addition to event planning, WhatsApp is introducing the ability for users to reply to messages within Announcement Groups. Announcement Groups are where admins in a Community send updates to all members. Replies will be organized together to facilitate visibility of responses, and users will not receive notifications for them. This feature aims to enable admins to gather feedback from members while maintaining the organization and clarity of Announcement Groups.

Communities were launched by WhatsApp in November 2022, offering a platform for neighbourhoods, school associations, hobbyists, and more to stay connected by allowing admins to combine up to 50 groups together. The company plans to continue rolling out new features to Communities and groups in the coming months, further enhancing user experience and connectivity.
