The South African media space is mourning the loss of yet another influential journalist in the form of Eusebius McKaiser.

BusinessTech Africa understands that the veteran journalist and author passed away on Tuesday and his passing was confirmed by his manager Jackie Strydom.

The media guru also worked for media houses such as Mail & Guardian, Radio 702 TimesLIVE as well appearing on various television stations in Mzansi.

According to Strydom, McKaiser was in Johannesburg at the time of his passing while some reports reveal that he succumbed to epileptic seizures.

Eusebius' death has shaken me.

Such a bright young man taken so soon.

He recently attended one of my breakfast sessions & as usual the debates were robust & intellectually stimulating. He was someone I knew would play a vital role in fixing this country.

“Unfortunately, I can confirm that it is true. He died earlier this afternoon in Joburg,” said Strydom when asked about reports of McKaiser’s death per News24.

McKaiser was 45 years old when he met his death and his family said he was a loving son, brother, uncle, partner, and special friend.

“It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved family member, friend, and colleague, Eusebius McKaiser, passed away unexpectedly earlier this afternoon,” said the family.

Looking at social media posts, his death has attracted prominent figures such as President Cyril Ramaphosa and former Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said the broadcaster was “a brilliant mind”.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of renowned journalist and former 702 presenter Eusebius McKaiser.

“He said he followed his work, and enjoyed his shows and interviews when he was at 702. He brought his own signature style to the radio. Condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace.
