Twitter  laying off even more people

Twitter Inc. lay off additional employees late Saturday in a new round of cost-cutting measures at the social networking business now controlled by Elon Musk.

According to those familiar with the matter, the layoffs affected staff across the organisation, including engineering and product.

Some employees were informed of their dismissal through email late Saturday, according to the sources, while others learnt of their dismissal when they were unable to log in to the internal system.

It’s unknown how many staff were affected, but many, according to sources.

The Information earlier claimed that more than 50 individuals had been laid off.

Outside of normal business hours, Twitter did not reply to a request for comment from Bloomberg News.

Esther Crawford, one of the executives in charge of Twitter Blue, the site’s subscription service, was among those let go, Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer stated in a tweet Sunday.

Soon after Musk’s acquisition of Twitter last year, she famously posted in a popular piece that staff will sometimes have to #SleepWhereYouWork to fulfil deadlines.

Crawford made her first public remarks following the study, saying she was pleased of the team she worked with but neither confirming or rejecting the findings.

She did not react to an earlier comment request.

Numerous company founders who joined Twitter through acquisitions in recent years, including the founders of the mailing service Revue and the design firm Ueno, tweeted on Sunday that they, too, had been let go.

Historically, Twitter avoided laying off founders in order to avoid having to accelerate the vesting of significant stock grants, according to people familiar with the firm.

Musk cut almost 3,700 people at Twitter last year, accounting for half of the company’s employment, in an effort to save expenses following his $44 billion acquisition.
