Standard Bank revokes its Mandatory Vaccination policy
Standard Bank has revoked their mandatory vaccination policy with immediate effect. The bank says it has considered the current regulations and the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. 95% of its employees have been vaccinated.
The policy change does however mean that it will no longer be compulsory for employees to vaccinate or [produce a PCR test when going to work.
The decision can be due to the trade union, SASBO, warning Standard Bank to reinstate its employees who were dismissed for not being vaccinated. The union stated that if Standard Bank does not comply then there will face court action.
The Union spoke to the bank to allow unvaccinated employees to return to work, but their efforts have been unsuccessful.
Standard Bank introduced the mandatory vaccination policy where it stated that employees should be vaccinated by the 4th of April. Since then, there have been dismissals of employees and incapacity hearings.
SASBO’s demands are mainly that the bank revokes its mandatory vaccination policy and to stop incapacity hearings.
