Pricing: New entirely electric Volvo  currently available in South Africa

The completely electric Volvo C40 Recharge has gone on sale in South Africa, with a starting price of R1,285,000.

The vehicle’s first allocation in South Africa is 50 units, with the first customer cars slated to arrive in June 2023, according to Volvo.

Orders may be placed using the My Volvo website.

The C40 Recharge is the Swedish luxury carmaker’s first move towards its objective of having half of its worldwide sales volume made up of purely electric vehicles by 2025, with the balance being hybrids.

Vovlo intends for every new vehicle it sells to be entirely electric by 2030.

The C40 Recharge is powered by two motors, one on the front axle and one on the back. This contributes to the car’s all-wheel drive traction and high power levels.

Volvo claims that at its peak, the car can produce 300kW of power and 660Nm of torque.  “With immediate access to its maximum torque figure, the 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched in 4.7 seconds.”

According to Volvo, the purchase price includes a five-year maintenance plan and guarantee (with the battery pack covered for eight years or 160 000 miles), a home charging wall box, and a public charging cable.

“The sleekly styled C40 Recharge’s low roofline and striking rear-end design contribute to its aerodynamic shape, yet it still offers the high seating position most Volvo drivers prefer,” stated Greg Maruszewski, general director of Volvo Car South Africa.

“It also features a generous luggage capacity of 489 litres, accessed via the standard power-operated tailgate and supplemented by a handy 31-litre frunk,” he said.
