Carrier claims it opposes the assessment’s “accuracy and basis” and intends to contest it.

According to the parent company, the Ghanaian unit of South African telecom provider MTN Group has received a bill for overdue taxes totaling $773 million (R13 billion), including fines and interest costs.

The Ghana Income Authority issued the bill to MTN Ghana after auditing it from 2014 to 2018 and concluding that the business under-declared its revenue by around 30% during that time period, according to MTN in a statement.

The airline, which operates in 19 African and Middle Eastern nations, stated that it challenges the “accuracy and basis” of the evaluation and intends to contest it.

“MTN Ghana believes that the taxes due have been paid during the period under assessment and has resolved to defend MTN Ghana’s position on the Assessment,” the company said.
