KFC to temporarily shut down some restaurants owing to load shedding
One of the most loved restaurants in South Africa, Kentucky Fried Chicken has announced a temporary closure of some of its stores.
KFC said this temporary closure is due to the ongoing load shedding implemented by Eskom earlier this week.
Although Eskom suspended load shedding for the weekend of Christmas, the embattled power generator introduced power cuts on Monday.
As the country’s largest fast-food chain, KFC said that it would be closing some of its stores temporarily due to power cuts.
In a tweet on its official account on Tuesday, the fast food outlet announced that ongoing scheduled power cuts had impacted its operations.
We are sorry, but due to the ongoing loadshedding, some of our restaurants will be temporarily closed, while others may have limited availability on some of your favourite menu items.

KFC said that while some restaurants would continue operating, there may be limited options on the menu but didn’t specify which areas will be affected.
As small businesses have borne the impact of power cuts on their daily operations, KFC is starting to feel the pressure as well.
The post was met with outrage on social media, with Twitter users tagging Eskom on the tweet, drawing the power utility’s attention to the impact of the rolling power cuts.
“We are sorry, but due to the ongoing load shedding, some of our restaurants will be temporarily closed,” said KFC.
“While others may have limited availability on some of your favourite menu items. We apologise for the inconvenience and will be back soon.”
BusinessTech Africa recently posted that for the remainder of the week, Eskom will expand load-shedding from stage 1 to a rotation of stages 2 and 3.
The utility stated that stage 3 will be implemented from the evening of Tuesday, December 27, 2022, until 05:00 on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
Stage 2 will be executed on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 05:00 to 16:00.
This stage 2 and stage 3 rotation will be repeated every day for the remainder of the week.
Eskom could not explain why it was essential to escalating load-shedding from stage 1, which it initiated following a 24-hour power outage stoppage on Christmas Day.
