Following its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2018, Hyundai has implemented e-Corner into an Ioniq 5 EV on exhibit at CES 2023, according to Engadget.

While it is anticipated that the technology will not be available in production vehicles for some time, its incorporation in the Hyundai EV is a significant step forward.

According to Hyundai Mobis, the technology will be available in 2025.

Hyundai Mobis manufactures parts for a variety of vehicle manufacturers, thus other automakers are likely to implement the technology into their vehicles.

The e-Corner module allows a car’s wheels to turn in unusual ways, such as rotating 90 degrees to allow the vehicle to travel horizontally — or “crab driving,” as Hyundai Mobis calls it.

The functionality might be useful in congested urban areas with a high number of parallel parking places.

E-Corner also allows cars to go diagonally, spin on the fly, and do pivot turns.

Hyundai Mobis demonstrated the potential of the e-Corner technology in a YouTube video.
