Eskom has declared that load-shedding would no longer be reduced as of Wednesday.
Load-shedding will instead stay at stage 4 between 16:00 and 05:00 and stage 3 between 05:00 and 16:00 everyday until further notice.
Eskom has previously stated that it intended to minimise power outages to an alternate schedule of stage 2 and stage 3 load shedding.
This comes after Bloomberg reported that the state-owned power provider has enforced 100 days of power outages in a row from October 31, 2022.
On Sunday, EskomSePush, a popular load-shedding schedule tracker and notification app, announced that Eskom had established a new record of 984 straight hours of load-shedding.
This came after Eskom temporarily paused power interruptions for 11 hours during the day. Load-shedding was restarted at stage 2 at 16:00 for the evening peak.
Load-shedding has reached stage 3 by Monday morning, with stage 4 slated for the evening peak.
According to the South African Reserve Bank, stage 3 load shedding costs the economy R204 million a day.
Stage 6 power outages cost the economy an estimated R899 million rand each day.
