Checkers has introduced its smart self-service trolley to make shopping quicker and more convenient for customers on the move. This innovative trolley lets shoppers scan items as they go, track spending in real time, and skip the traditional checkout queue.

The smart trolley is currently being trialed at two Western Cape stores Brackenfell and Constantia. Each location offers ten trolleys for customers to test. After successful internal testing, this pilot reflects Checkers’ commitment to improving the shopping experience and staying competitive.

How the Trolley Works

Shoppers begin by scanning their Xtra Savings card, which links selected products to their account. As items are added, the trolley displays a running total and highlights relevant promotions. This real-time tracking helps customers manage their budget and maximize savings.

Streamlined Checkout and In-Store Navigation

Once shopping is complete, customers proceed to a dedicated checkout lane and pay using a bank card linked to their Checkers Sixty60 profile. While the trolley doesn’t process payments directly, it sets up the transaction for a fast and hassle-free checkout. Staff are available to assist, and a printed receipt confirms the purchase.

The trolley also helps customers locate products within the store, reducing time spent searching. By combining scanning, tracking, navigation, and checkout preparation, the Xpress Trolley delivers a smoother, faster, and more personalized shopping experience.
