The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has said that late applications pose a severe difficulty as coastal schools prepare to reopen.

While they were aware that certain schools had surpassed capacity, they stressed that children’s right to an education would not be jeopardised.

When applying late, parents, according to the agency, give up the option of selecting a school.

Bronagh Hammond from the department: “The challenge with late applications is that we do not know how many late applications we will receive, where placement will be required, for what grades, language and ages and for what subjects or specialised needs.”
