MTN Group announced on October 31 that it has successfully migrated its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) platform to Microsoft Azure, launching EVA 3.0 in South Africa. The company describes this as “the largest Telco cloud implementation in the Middle East and Africa,” reflecting a significant step in its technology-driven strategy.
Boosting Data Capabilities
The upgraded platform, built on Azure Databricks and secured with Microsoft Defender, now processes over 22 billion records daily, supports more than 800 analytical workflows, and integrates around 1,700 data streams. This enhanced infrastructure enables MTN to analyze data more quickly, respond to operational issues with greater efficiency, and provide more personalized services to its customers.
“As we expand our analytics capabilities, EVA 3.0 allows us to process information faster, apply intelligence more effectively, and safeguard it through advanced cloud security,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, MTN Group’s Chief Information Officer. “Working with Microsoft, we’ve built a resilient platform that supports responsible AI and ensures we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
Strategic Partnership and Skills Development
This migration forms part of MTN’s strategic partnership with Microsoft, initiated in 2022, and is being executed through Project Nephos and the company’s Cloud Centre of Excellence. Alongside the technical upgrade, MTN has invested in workforce development, awarding over 1,350 Azure certifications in 2025, equipping employees with the skills needed to operate and maintain the cloud-based platform.
The South African deployment also provides a blueprint for other MTN markets across Africa. By combining advanced analytics with enhanced operational performance, the initiative aims to position MTN as a leading technology-driven enterprise on the continent, ready to meet the evolving demands of its customers.
