As South Africa takes on the upcoming G20 presidency, the country’s growing global influence is drawing increased attention. Against this backdrop, Counder, a global network connecting visionary leaders, has announced that its flagship Counder Conference 2026 will take place in Cape Town from January 27–29, 2026. The decision echoes both the country’s strategic position and the continent’s rising importance in global affairs.
The Conference will bring together 500 carefully selected international leaders, including family office principals, institutional investors, venture capitalists, and industry pioneers. With a strong focus on collaboration, the event will feature roundtables, strategic breakout sessions, and Counder’s proprietary matchmaking system to foster meaningful, high-level connections.
Africa in the Spotlight
While global macro-trends such as AI-driven innovation, renewable energy, biotech, and digital assets will be central to discussions, the African continent will take a leading role at the 2026 edition. The themes have been carefully curated to highlight Africa’s opportunities and challenges:
- South Africa: At a Crossroads — Examining the nation’s position as a gateway to continental markets. Local attendees include property developer and arts benefactor Louis Norval, tech pioneer Michael Jordaan, philanthropist Joshin Raghubar, and investor Basetsana Kumalo.
- Nigeria: Bold and Untapped — Exploring fintech, energy, and manufacturing opportunities in Africa’s largest economy, with contributions from investor Kola Aina.
- Egypt: Past Meets Future — Assessing North Africa’s role as a strategic hub, led by voices such as payments entrepreneur Sherine Kabesh.
- The Continent’s Century — Highlighting Africa’s demographic dividend and market potential, with perspectives from leaders such as Kenyan climate investor James Mwangi, pan-African hospitality investor James Bailes, energy investor Reyburn Hendricks, and fintech investor Johan Bosini.
These sessions will go beyond theory, offering first-hand perspectives from seasoned African industry leaders. Previous Counder events have already produced strategic partnerships, co-investments, and cross-border ventures, underscoring the network’s reputation for delivering results.
Global Leaders in Attendance
The Cape Town gathering will also host influential voices from across the world, including economist Anuradha Das Mathur (India), entrepreneur Oliver Merkel (Germany), sports-tech investor Sudeep Ramnani (UAE), and venture capitalist Andrew Stewart(USA).
To create a uniquely South African experience, Counder is partnering with iconic local venues such as the Norval Foundation in Tokai and the German Residence in Bishopscourt. Delegates will also enjoy curated excursions showcasing Cape Town, recently voted the world’s best city.
Counder’s leadership, CEO Michel Weiss and Chairman Leonard Stiegeler, emphasized the significance of hosting the event at this moment. Weiss noted: “South Africa’s G20 presidency showcases the country’s excellence in convening world-class global conversations. While governments shape policy frameworks, Cape Town will host the private sector leaders driving the future.”
Stiegeler added: “Africa, with its fast-growing population and technology-forward societies, is a key stakeholder of the future. South Africa is a natural gateway to these opportunities.”
