Unisa’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences offers a wide array of qualifications in the fields of agricultural, environmental, life, and consumer sciences. With its leading-edge laboratory facilities, our students will have a place to grow their minds and do what every scientist lives to do – put theory into practice.
The School of Agriculture and Life Sciences has two departments:
- The Department of Agriculture and Animal Health, which focuses on plant and animal agricultural sciences, agricultural economics and extension, animal health, and agribusiness.
- The Department of Life and Consumer Sciences, which includes disciplines such as human physiology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, botany, biology, biotechnology, genetics, microbiology, and zoology. The focus of Consumer Sciences is on food science, clothing and textiles, nutrition, and hospitality management.
The School of Ecological and Human Sustainability also comprises two departments:
- The Department of Geography, which is concerned with the relationship between humans and the environment.
- The Department of Environmental Sciences, which concentrates on all aspects of nature conservation, ornamental horticulture, and landscaping, as well as environmental management, environmental science, and environmental monitoring and modelling.

- Master of Science in Ornamental Horticulture
- Doctor of Philosophy in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscaping
- Doctor of Philosophy in Consumer Science
