Japanese appliances giant, Panasonic has just raised the bar high for its competitors by announcing plans to launch internet-connected home appliances in India this year.
Good news is that the Japanese firm is not going to charge a premium for this tech advance in an aggressive bid to corner market share, unlike the industry practice where such products are sold at the highest price.
Convenience, is what you’ll be basically paying for since all your smart door bells, plugs and switches (etc) will be at the tip of your fingers. This will be followed by side-by-side refrigerators, front-loading washing machines, fans, geysers amongst others covering the entire product portfolio in phases.
The company’s CEO for India business, Manish Sharma said first in line of connected appliances will be air-conditioners whereby Panasonic will turn its entire inverter range of models as internet-enabled.
He said Panasonic is the only electronics company in India which has products across segments such as wires, wiring devices, LED lights, kitchen appliances, home appliances, televisions and personal care products. “All these products will ride on the connected software,” he said.

Panasonic IndiaNSE 0.98 % has also developed an internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence enabled platform, Miraie, on which it’s connected and smart appliances will run. The platform has been developed at Panasonic’s India Innovation Centre based out of Bangalore.
“With the advent of 5G, IoT will be driving the next round of transformation in the digital world. As per our research, over 75% are looking for specific requirements related to ease of use, safety, monitoring misuse, service reminders and personalize usage pattern,” Sharma said.
