In a recent announcement, the City of Tshwane, SA has disclosed that they plan to convert the transmission network for its free Wi-Fi services to fibre.
“There are 54 high sites established across the seven regions of the metro.
It can improve on the quality of connection as well as the speed and reliability of the network.
To date, the city has experienced more than half of its network being vandalised.
The criminals steal solar panels, batteries, power cables, as well as other equipment. The city has provided security guards in some high sites to minimise vandalism on its infrastructure.”
The Metropolitan area is centred on the city of Pretoria with surrounding towns and localities included in the local government area.
The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality’s land area increased from 2,198 square kilometres (849 sq mi)[5] in 2010 to 6,368 square kilometres (2,459 sq mi) after the incorporation of Metsweding.
