TikTok has launched its STEM Feed, a new feature aimed at promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content on the platform. Partnering with Common Sense Networks (CSN) and Poynter, TikTok curates high-quality STEM videos designed to enhance users’ educational experiences.
The STEM Feed makes discovering enriching, informative content across the platform easier, allowing users to explore a diverse range of STEM topics. It also provides a space for creators to connect, learn together, and share valuable insights with one another, further reinforcing TikTok’s commitment to its global community.
Empowering Education in Sub-Saharan Africa
TikTok, the world’s fastest-growing entertainment platform, has expanded its STEM Feed to Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), marking a significant step in its mission to educate and inspire users. Available in over 20 countries across the region, the STEM Feed offers users a chance to discover expert-led content in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The feed features videos in English with auto-translated subtitles and is verified by independent fact-checking organisations CSN and Poynter.
A Hub for Curious Minds
TikTok boasts over a billion users worldwide, many of whom seek to broaden their knowledge across a variety of topics, including social issues, art, and education. The platform’s #BookTok community, with 47 million video creations, showcases the strong desire among users to learn and engage with new ideas. Additionally, the #LearnOnTikTok hashtag attracts intellectual users keen on discovering interesting facts, tips, and niche subjects.
Boniswa Sidwaba, Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, stated, “TikTok is more than just entertainment. It’s a platform where users can make discoveries—whether that’s finding a new restaurant, hearing a new artist, or learning a new language. The #STEMTok feed expands the world of discovery by providing users with enriching educational content.”
Shaping the Next Generation
With 25% of TikTok’s global users being teenagers, the platform is in a prime position to influence the younger generation. Through the STEM Feed, teen users can deepen their understanding of subjects like microbiology, planetary science, astrophysics, robotics, and the technology behind the digital world.
The STEM Feed offers more than just dance challenges and viral trends. Parents can feel confident that TikTok is a space for both entertainment and education, providing a rich, diverse environment where users of all ages can learn and grow together.
Sidwaba concludes, “The STEM community on TikTok is thriving, with a growing number of passionate content creators eager to share their knowledge and insights. This feed connects curious minds across borders, making education more accessible and engaging than ever before.”
