To break the ice starlink is the first satellite network constellation created using low earth orbit to project internet having the capability to support; online gaming, streaming, video calling as well as other device usages.
It was established by SpaceX in May 2019 where they launched 60 starlinks into orbit. In 2024 there are over 6 078 whereby only 6 006 are functioning across the world.
As the satellite expands to Africa is has the benefit of experiencing better and faster internet connectivity in most remote areas. For users to get access to the starlink internet network at a high speed they required to have a small satellite dish on the ground rather than using traditional network services.
Starlink first African launch happened in Nigeria in February 2023, after receiving the go ahead from the Communications Commission the year before. It is planning on have more partnerships with regulatory approvals from other African countries, such as Gambia, Angola, Tanzania, Senegal and other neighboring countries. This show that starlink is making a name for itself in Africa to improve internet connectivity.
There are challenges to be considered is the lack infrastructure for the starlink services, more especially in remote areas. Cost and affordability are another issue to dive into because there are few barriers to knockdown to find solutions. If this can be delt with it can improve economic growth, innovation, improve communication across regions
To conclude the introducing of starlink’s in Africa is that in improves the digital divide in parts of the continent. As starlink continues to expand in Africa it gives them opportunities in transformative technologies for a better and brighter future.
