In a recent announcement, entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed that long-form videos will soon be accessible on smart televisions through his social network platform, X. This follows a report by Fortune magazine stating that X plans to launch a TV app for Amazon and Samsung users in the upcoming week.
Last October, X introduced an early version of video and audio calling for select users as part of Elon Musk’s vision to transform the platform into a comprehensive “super-app,” offering a range of services from messaging to peer-to-peer payments.
Responding to a user’s post on X speculating about the platform’s long-form videos being directly available on smart TVs, Musk cryptically confirmed, “Coming soon.” This signals a strategic move by X to expand its reach and offer users a seamless viewing experience on larger screens.
Fortune’s report suggested that the TV app might resemble the format of Google’s YouTube TV app. An unidentified source mentioned Musk’s determination to compete with YouTube in the video-sharing landscape. X, however, has not provided further details about the upcoming app, leaving users and industry watchers curious about its features and capabilities.
In its endeavour to become a “video-first platform,” X has been actively forming partnerships with notable figures like former Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and former CNN anchor Don Lemon. These collaborations aim to enhance the platform’s content offerings and appeal to a wider audience.
