WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy feature called “Silence unknown callers,” which enables users to mute calls from unfamiliar numbers. This feature grants users greater control over incoming calls by automatically filtering out spam, scams, and calls from unknown individuals, enhancing overall protection.
With this feature, incoming calls from unknown numbers will not ring on the user’s phone but will appear in the call log in case the user wishes to return the call.
To activate the feature, users need to access their “Settings,” navigate to “Privacy,” scroll down to “Calls,” and switch on the “Silence unknown callers” option.
WhatsApp has also introduced another feature called “Privacy checkup” to ensure users are aware of the privacy and security options available for their WhatsApp accounts. This step-by-step feature guides users through crucial privacy settings, enabling them to select the appropriate level of protection conveniently in one place.
By clicking “Start checkup,” users can navigate through multiple privacy layers that strengthen the security of their messages, calls, and personal information.
These new features are part of WhatsApp’s commitment to providing robust security for its users. In early May, the messaging platform launched another privacy feature called “chat lock,” which allows users to safeguard intimate conversations. This is achieved by moving a chat thread to a separate folder that can only be accessed by the owner using a device password or fingerprint. Additionally, the feature automatically hides the contents of that chat in notifications.
WhatsApp emphasizes the importance of securing private communication, as people need a safe space for their conversations. The company aims to communicate this message globally by encouraging secure communication among friends and loved ones through private messages, ensuring they have a safe environment to open up and share.
By continuously enhancing privacy features, WhatsApp aims to provide users with a secure and trusted platform for their communication needs.
