Social media giant, Meta Platforms has hired an Oslo-based team. Last year the team was building Artificial Intelligence network technology at Graphcore, a British chip unicorn.
Jon Carvil a Meta spokesperson confirmed the hiring of the new team.
“We recently welcomed a number of highly specialised engineers in Oslo to our infrastructure team at Meta. They bring deep expertise in the design and development of supercomputing systems to support AI and machine learning at scale in Meta’s data centres.”
In a report by Reuters it shows that they identified ten people whose LinkedIn profiles said the worked at Graphcore until December 2022 or January 2023 and Joined Meta in February or March this year. at Graphcore, is a tech company that develops computer chips and systems optimised for AI work.
The Facebook and Instagram parent, Meta shares made a significant increase with their shares going up by 14% after the company turned its focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company has become increasingly reliant on AI technology to target advertising.
According to reporting by TechCentral, The 10 employees’ job descriptions on LinkedIn indicated the team had worked on AI-specific networking technology at Graphcore.
Meata is also designing a complex computing chip in addition to its network chip. The chip will computing chip will train AI models and perform inference, which will be ready in 2025.
Graphcore closed its Oslo offices last year October as part of a broader restructuring.
