Businesses are under more pressure than ever to provide human resources services to employees who may be completely remote, partially remote, or a mix of on- and off-site.
Some CEOs have responded with spectacular technical solutions that have totally changed the way their organisations manage personnel and service them.
Use their strategies, but keep your own company’s goals in mind, says Anna Tavis, clinical professor and academic director of Human Capital Management at New York University’s Division of the Program in Business.
“Do not rush, or be driven by a ‘best practices’ mindset,” she said. “Come to the RFP process with clarity on the strategy and purpose, and a vision of the impact on the culture that technology may have.”
“ We know the number one reason people leave companies is for development, growth and advancement. Talent GPS is a direct response to what our employees have been asking for,” said Christina Schelling,SVP, Chief Talent & Diversity Officer, Verizon.
Verizon knew that one key to keeping employees longer was showing them they could move up within the company.
In 2021, the company launched an ambitious tech project to connect those dots: Talent GPS. The first phase described and grouped all the jobs and skills in the company. The next phase showcased that information and appropriate openings on a one-stop microsite for employees.
“Before Talent GPS, I would have said that I never thought I’d be someone who stayed at a company for such a long time,” said Jennifer Taylor, principal engineer in global learning and development. “I think a lot of people in younger age groups think about moving to different companies to get a lot of exposure, but I ended up staying because I know there is that exposure.”
