Headquartered in Finland, mobile telephone maker Nokia says it is still committed to growing and remaining rooted in the African continent.
The Finnish telecommunications equipment maker, Nokia, announced that it still wants to grow and implement more infrastructure in the African market.
This is the sentiment shared by Nokia officials who revealed their insights on the company’s growth prospects in Africa as they unpacked the company’s technology vision for 2030.
Nokia bosses revealed their plans during the Africa Tech Festival 2022 in Cape Town last week.
Aji Ed, CTO of Mobile Networks Middle East and Africa (MEA) at Nokia, is quoted by ITWeb, stating that the African continent remains an important market for Nokia.
“We have been here for many years. Nokia, Siemens, etc, have a long legacy from that perspective,” said Ed.
“We have been working with almost all the operators. If you look at Sub-Saharan Africa, we have been present in most of the key countries, such as South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, etc.
“If you look at the key operator groups, we have good business with all these operators and we hope to really increase our market share and that’s our goal.”
Echoing Ed’s remarks is the global head of marketing for Nokia’s mobile networks, Steph Delvoye who said they are discussing future growth and opportunities.
“We were discussing future growth opportunities and maybe it’s time we do a re-evaluation of the BRICS,” added Delvoye.
“Because some of the countries that are in the BRICS are a bit more complicated nowadays and we should add some African countries…what that’s we think.
“We’re seeing progress. We can see that Africa as a whole is expanding quickly, therefore expanding nations need a lot of new technologies.”
The market is a top priority for our MEA team and they intend to remain and expand in this sector. Delvoye said Nokia detects a few trends regarding the company’s technology vision 2030, which its chief strategy and technology officer Nishant Batra unveiled last year.
