Apple is set to release several new devices, starting with the iPhone 14 series, new iPads, three watches, refreshed AirPods Pro, new HomePod, some upgraded Macs, plus a revamped AR/MR headset powered by its flagship M2 processor.
In fact, the M2 chip will power most new Apple products, including the M2 Mac mini, M2 Pro Mac mini, M2 Pro/M2 Max 14, and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the M2 Ultra/ M2 Extreme Mac Pro, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
M2 is Apple’s second-generation silicon SoC (system on chip) for Mac. The successor of M1, M2 improves performance per watt with 18% faster CPU, 35% more powerful GPU and 40% faster Neural Engine. These devices will hit the market between the fall of this year and the beginning of next year.
Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, said that “M2 starts the second generation of M-series chips and goes beyond the remarkable features of M1. With our relentless focus on power-efficient performance, M2 delivers a faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. And along with higher memory bandwidth and new capabilities like ProRes acceleration, M2 continues the tremendous pace of innovation in Apple silicon for the Mac.”
Apple announced two new Macs with the M2 chip at its recently concluded Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
Gurman says Apple’s M3 processor is already in the works and will likely appear in 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops next year.
Apple will release M2-equipped 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models later this year, with a larger 14- to 15-inch iPad coming in “the next year or two.”
Apple is also expected to unveil the standard Watch Series 8, a new SE, and a more “endurable” watch for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Apple Watch will have an improved processor.
Apple is also likely to discontinue the Series 3 this fall.
The tech giant is also expected to unveil a new Apple TV this fall with an A14 chip and more RAM, as well as an improved HomePod.
Upgraded AirPods Pro can support lossless audio.
