inDrive, a global leader in urban mobility and services, has solidified its role as a key player in transforming African transport systems at the recently concluded Smarter Mobility Africa Summit 2024. Running from October 2nd to the 4th, the summit, themed “Embracing the New Urban Era,” brought together top visionaries, policymakers, and industry experts to reimagine the future of transport across the continent.
Mary-Anne Momoh-Ige, Government Relations Specialist for inDrive Africa, represented the company in critical discussions on creating more efficient, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions by integrating ride-hailing services with traditional public transport. “At inDrive, we are convinced that the future of mobility lies in collaboration,” she said. “By partnering with public transport operators and local authorities, we aim to deliver inclusive and adaptable mobility solutions that meet the evolving needs of urban commuters.”
Urban mobility challenges in South Africa are intensifying, particularly with inefficiencies in transport infrastructure contributing to increased carbon emissions. South Africa’s transport sector accounts for 11% of the country’s overall emissions, with road transport contributing over 90% of this figure.
InDrive is actively working to merge ride-hailing platforms with traditional public transport networks, creating seamless, eco-friendly solutions that address both affordability and environmental sustainability.
inDrive’s participation at the summit also highlighted its commitment to fostering gender inclusivity and technological innovation. Through its Aurora Tech Award, the company proudly sponsored the Women in Mobility Seminar, underscoring its dedication to empowering women in tech and mobility. The Aurora Tech Award celebrates female founders of tech startups, and applications for the 2025 cohort which are now open.
Speaking on behalf of inDrive’s Southern Africa team, Vincent Linalane, Business Development Representative, emphasized the company’s ongoing mission to drive urban transport innovation. “We understand that the future of transport hinges on collaboration across sectors,” said Linalane. “By working closely with local operators, public transport authorities, and other stakeholders, we are able to create solutions that not only meet today’s challenges but are also sustainable for the future.”
InDrive’s continued involvement in high-level industry events like the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit underscores its commitment to being more than just a ride-hailing platform. The company is shaping the future of transport by driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and championing inclusivity across the continent.
