The German automaker Mercedes-Benz have reached a milestone with the new electric van in South Africa as the latest eSprinter combines Mercedes-Benz edge-zero-emission technology with flexibility that the Sprinter is known for.
The eSprinter features a tri-modular design that includes a front module housing high-voltage components, an underbody battery module and a rear module containing the electric motor. Its design provides ample storage space and a low centre of gravity for better handling.
The eSprinter panel van has a 113 kWh battery which covers up 475 km on a single charge. Based on the simulations from the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) City cycle, it can achieve a range of up to 530 kilometres.
The vehicle’s electric powertrain is a key function of its zero-emission appeal, that provides an option for different wheelbases and power outputs. Customers can choose between a 100 kW or 150 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PSM) with either an 81 kWh or 113 kWh battery.
The eSprinter continues to emphasize on safety with its advanced battery efficiency and safety system. It features a crash-resistant shield for the battery life and has a recuperation system that transforms kinetic energy into electrical energy during braking, ensuring better efficiency.
Mercedes-Benz has installed the eSprinter with a list of safety features and assistance systems, such as Active Brake Assist, Cross Wind Assist, Adaptive Brake Lights, and Intelligent Speed Assist with cruise control. Other features are the Backup Camera, LED High-Performance Headlights, and Active Lane Keeping System.
The eSprinter can charge using both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). It can charge 80% of its 81 kWh battery in about 32 minutes, while the 113 kWh needs 42 minutes from the same charge.
The price of the eSprinter includes a two-year unlimited km warranty and an eight-year/160 000 km battery warranty. An optional service plan is available for up to five years or 200,000 km.
