A recent report by Tanzanian newspaper, The Citizen, has revealed that over 100 Japanese investors are set to visit Tanzania in October. This development follows a highly successful investment campaign conducted by The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy in Tokyo.
The campaign, which began on May 27, 2024, and concluded on July 10, 2024, targeted key Japanese cities including Tokyo, Osaka, Shizuoka, and Chiba. Its aim was to attract Japanese investors to explore and engage in investment opportunities in Tanzania.
The visiting investors will engage in negotiations and finalize existing investment agreements with key stakeholders in Tanzania. This visit represents a significant step in solidifying the investment commitments initiated during the campaign.
The Tanzanian ambassador to Japan, Baraka Luavanda, and the executive director of the TIC, Gilead Teri, played pivotal roles in promoting Tanzanian investment opportunities to the Japanese business community. Their leadership was instrumental in the campaign’s success.
According to a press statement released to The Citizen, the TIC and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be exchanging experts to further channel investments from Japan to Tanzania. The campaign received additional support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which aided in its execution.
Japan and Tanzania have maintained a robust economic relationship, with Japanese investments significantly contributing to wealth creation and employment in Tanzania. Major Japanese companies like Japan Tobacco, Sumitomo Chemicals, Tanja, Matoborwa, and Bardi Bardi are already operating in the East African country.
The successful campaign and the upcoming visit of Japanese investors underscore the strong economic ties between Japan and Tanzania, promising further growth and collaboration in various sectors.
This initiative highlights Tanzania’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and fostering international partnerships to drive economic development.
